Position Title: Junior Architect

Basic Purpose:  

 

This role will help facilitate the entire software development lifecycle for implementations on Talbots.  This role will be involved in a wide variety of projects from initial planning and estimating phases through development and ongoing optimization/support.   Responsibilities will be split between documenting solutions and patterns to help teams develop a shared view of systems and collaborating with developers to deliver and support solutions.  Projects will include new system implementations as well as updates to existing systems.  A pragmatic approach to system design is required to deliver solutions in a cost-effective manner.

 

Experience with .net development, Azure integration offerings such as Azure Service Buses, preferred.

 

This position will act in a leadership capacity on projects assigned to them and will be responsible for ensuring management is kept current on project status and milestone deliverables.  This position will also assist in post implementation support and system enhancements.

 Principal Accountabilities:

• The primary accountability is to translate business requirements into system requirements, design specifications and document new and/or existing application requirements. Ensure that new or existing systems meet business requirements and practices and that all application interface issues/concerns are understood, documented and addressed satisfactorily
• Collaborate with IT and business partners to plan and estimate and new system implementations.
• Collaborate with IT and business partners to document solutions.
• Collaborate with IT partners to develop and document patterns to be used across projects.
• Develop and deliver processes as needed to complete projects.
• Develop well structured, easily maintained program code. Prepares documentation of developed programs and processes
• Follow all established policies and procedures within the IT and corporate environment. This will include published security standards and coding techniques as well as the documented IT strategy
• For assigned projects, responsible for managing all aspects of the SDM including but not limited to status updates, definition and tracking of project milestones, system design, and tracking of financial deliverables including capital labor 
• Actively participate in the Request for Proposal (RFP) process for software purchases, evaluating the results and providing recommendations to upper management and the business
• Ensure all deliverables are of the highest quality
• Prepares estimates for complex projects to provide management with information needed to accurately forecast project delivery dates
• Assist project team with unit testing. Develop system test plans and perform full system testing prior to implementation
• Assist in the mentoring and training and development of others
• Works with business teams to understand business processes

• Work with the stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new functional requests/projects
• Work with all levels of IT and business where appropriate

 External:

• System vendors for software support.

Education/Experience/Knowledge:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 3 - 6 years experience defining, designing and implementing major applications
• 6-8 years of programming experience
• Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
• Expertise in project management is valued (PMBOK, Agile methodologies, etc.)
• Keen problem solving skills, ability to deal with complex situations and recommend a technical solution
• Must be flexible and able to respond to rapid change to meet business needs
• Strong analytic, problem solving and business acumen
• Strong coding skills required in the language and/or tools of the specific applications area
• Strong database coding, tuning, design skills required in the language of the specific applications area
• Ability to learn new technology and stay abreast of current technical trends
• Ability to translate business needs into creative technological solutions
