Position Title: Dir eCommerce and Engineering

External Description:

Director of Software Engineering (eCommerce Applications) -- Including Software Design/Development and Technical-Operations, this engineering leadership role is responsible for providing Director-level direction to software development Managers, software/applications support Managers, and their accompanying onshore, nearshore, and offshore software-engineering, development teams; supporting multi-millions in eCommerce Applications transactions (considerable year-over-year growth), and leading the corollary technical software operations.   Position partners with the business, including direct marketing and commercial functional areas to enable and grow this business (and specifically, the applications that this team engineers).

This position is responsible for ensuring the activities of the engineering and support teams are in alignment with the technical objectives and priorities of the enterprise organization – This includes providing technical, functional, and motivational leadership for companywide, USA, and Canada-wide millions of customers; encompassing software design, development, solutions, technical-support, and cloud-eComm operations to meet the direct marketing business needs. This scope includes Website, eCommerce, internally-engineered products (led by this role), and 3rd-Party commercial & cloud applications, technical interfaces & integrations to corporate applications, technical operations and 24x7 uptime, including integrations to Talbot’s core and commercial delivery systems, such as OMS, WMS, MFP, BI & Big Data.

This individual has leadership responsibility for communicating the current technical operational status of all Software Engineering Status/Production, Operational, Design, eComm-Architectural, and Support eCommerce operations/projects; reporting up to the VP, OmniChannel Applications and Technical Operations.

This Director level position will ensure all technical eComm operations, support, and projects are maintained and delivered on time, within budget, and within operational metrics (including up-time and system load-performance). Works with business relationship partners to define opportunities and to identify, prioritize, motivate, and track both operations and projects based on predefined criteria (return on investments, productivity, resource availability, compliance). The Director will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions in order to provide the business information needed for business decisions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Software Engineering Leadership - Including the technical architecture, software design & development, and eComm support operations
  • Applications Technical Roadmap: 1-year / 3-year / 5-year
  • Effectively lead & manage Development Managers, Support Managers, to oversee incidents and communicate with business partners regarding status and resolution
  • Develop IT and eCommerce strategy, and participate in selecting technology tools to meet business and operational needs
  • Ensure technical system solutions and software follow the published IT strategy
  • Defines and manages accountabilities for the development management team

Upon coming on-board you can expect to:

  • Effective Leadership & Management of Software Engineering teams
  • Managing our Software Development teams, to build solutions alongside our Infrastructure, Security & our QA teams
  • Manage and build out an eCommerce Production Support team to effectively run 24x7, efficiently scaling, with escalate/resolve SOP for any site issues
  • You will be the central voice in analyzing our current Software Engineering team, developer structure and engineering-roles to help prioritize new hires and make significant decisions in team shape and size
  • Technical Hands-on Expertise in Software Design, Engineering, Development, and the support of those applications your team builds
  • Applications Release Pipeline – Manage eCommerce Applications version release schedules, environments, and resource management to ensure that our efforts are aligned within Technology and across the business
  • Steward our move to continuous integration and deployment efforts
  • Relentless in pursuing High-Quality software engineered products at every step of our SDLC
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and an advocate for teaming & effective communications
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead, coach, mentor, and motivate software engineering and support team managers and staff
  • Ability to break down complex concepts and communicate these in easy to understand concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Simplify application architecture and design, build solutions that allow flexibility without overdesigns, to ease development work, ramp-up and future maintainability
  • Build reusable software frameworks that can be leveraged by future projects
  • Leverage a deep understanding of web design principles and technical capabilities to focus on how to understand consumer behavior and operational processes to drive efficiency across the organization and develop and integrated technology roadmap
  • Communication & Leadership Experience:  This is an essential role requiring you to be a significant figurehead and spokesperson. Leading the eCommerce Software Technology teams

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or other related field preferred 
  • 10+ years of Software Engineering Leadership experience (prefer someone who has coded themselves in their total experience; and now leads teams of software managers/engineers/architects)
  • eCommerce Engineering experience, with strong verbal and written communication skills required 
  • Excellent communication and technical presentation skills
  • Keen technical problem solving skills, ability to deal with complex technical, design/development situations; and recommend a software engineering course of action 
  • Must be flexible and be able to respond to rapid change to meet business needs
