Position Title: Technical Lead

Basic Purpose:

This position is dedicated to defining technical solutions for our HR business team, and acts in a leadership role to provide technical guidance to systems analysts and other team members. The primary responsibility is to be a strategic partner with HR and lead the Workday Integration team with new and ongoing integration support.  This person will work closely with the HRIS Manager and the business community to understand and define business requirements not only for Workday, but for all systems that support HR functions.  They will then translate the business requirements into system requirements and design specifications.  The technical lead will also play an active role in the identification and creation of all necessary documentation as defined by the standard Systems Development Methodology (SDM)  process.  This position will act in a leadership capacity on projects assigned to them and will be responsible for ensuring management is kept current on project status and milestone deliverables.  This position will also assist in post implementation support and system enhancements as well as resolving complex performance tuning.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Work closely with our HRIS Manager to contribute to the ongoing design, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of the Workday modules including HCM, Payroll, Time Tracking, Absence Management, and Benefits
  • Manage the process of changing existing Workday integrations and creating new ones based upon business need
  • Production support for existing Workday inbound and outbound integrations by providing break/fix analysis, regression testing, and data analysis for data integrity issues
  • Stay current with Workday new functionality delivered in the routine updates.  Review with the business and help drive the deployment of new features
  • Provide leadership and participate in analyzing, designing, testing and bringing to production HR system integrations within the HR realm including but not limited to, Equifax, recruiting, benefit providers, ACA management and others
  • Translate business requirements into system requirements, design specifications and document new and/or existing application requirements.  Ensure that new or existing systems meet business requirements and practices and that all application interface issues/concerns are understood, documented and addressed satisfactorily
  • For assigned projects, responsible for managing all aspects of the SDM  including but not limited to status updates, definition and tracking of project milestones, system design, and tracking of financial deliverables including capital labor 
  • Actively participate in the Request for Proposal (RFP) process for software purchases, evaluating the results and providing recommendations to upper management and the business
  • Work with technical team to ensure optimal technical design for our environment
  • Prepares estimates for complex projects to provide management with information needed to accurately forecast project delivery dates
  • Assist project team with unit testing.  Develop system test plans and perform full system testing prior to implementation
  • Provide production support to existing HR systems
  • Assist  in the mentoring, training and development of team technical skills
  • Monitor and resolve performance tuning issues either via working directly with third party support or the case management process
  • Works with the Business Relationship Manager (BRM) and the business to understand business processes
  • Follow the established principles of the Information Technology Mission, Vision, Values & Principles (MVVP)

Education/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
  • 8-10 years of programming experience
  • 5 years experience defining, designing, and implementing HR applications
  • Strong technical background covering a variety of platforms, databases, and coding languages
  • Strong technical Workday skills
  • Knowledge of Workday implementation tools (Enterprise interface builder (EIB), Workday Studio, Workday Report Writer, and DTS)
  • Experience with Web Services and APIs (WSDL, SOAP, REST and WS standards)
  • Have an understanding of Workday’s security model and best practices
  • Comfortable working with third party solutions on data mapping and integration implementation
  • Certification in project management is preferred
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills for effective communication with team members and IT Leaders
  • Keen problem solving skills, ability to deal with complex situations and recommend a technical solution
  • Must be flexible and able to respond to rapid change to meet business needs
  • Ability, to learn new technology and stay abreast of current technical trends
  • Ability to translate business needs into creative technological solutions
