Position Title: Tech Designer

External Description:

The Technical Designer is responsible for facilitating the transition of apparel styles from design concept to production. This position collaborates cross-functionally (internally and externally) to ensure fit, quality and delivery are achieved. Business standards are upheld, and the integrity of the Talbots brand is represented at all times.

What You’ll Do:

  • Responsible for coordinating and monitoring the technical development process from design to production.
  • Protects brand integrity through fit continuity, upholding construction standards, sizing and style consistency.
  • Lead fit sessions and documents results; analyzes fit and accurately updates corrections of assigned product area.
  • Executes the sample process and creates technical packages to communicate requirements for fit and construction from concept through bulk production.
  • Measures and prepares samples from development through production approval.
  • Establishes, monitors, and maintains fit construction and workmanship standards to ensure consistency across all vendors and factory bases.
  • Follows up on correspondence from overseas factories/vendors on outstanding issues and at risk items – leverages written comments, sketches, photos or pattern revisions as needed to communicate.
  • Tracks and manages workflow and ensure seasonal deadlines are met for product category – partners with management to asses next steps when issues arise.
  • Participates in departmental and cross functional meetings.
  • Flexible to the needs of the total department and handles other responsibilities and projects as needed.
  • Fosters open communication and team environment with all business partners, receives constructive feedback professionally.

Internal:

  • Works cross-functionally with Design, Product Development, Merchandising, and Sourcing

 

External:

  • Establish, build and maintain positive, cross-functional partnerships internally (i.e.: Merchants, Design, Production)

 

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of study, or equivalent functional experience.
  • 6+ years experience in apparel industry including patternmaking and construction experience.
  • Expertise in pattern making, grading, construction, and fit.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to positively influence partners and team (internally and externally).
  • Superior time management, organization and multitasking skills.
