Director, Photo Studio Creative – TALBOTS Creative Marketing

 

The Director, Photo Studio Creative is responsible for creating beautiful and compelling photography primarily used for talbots.com but also, but not limited to omnichannel outlet and plus size concepts.  This includes all creative execution and output through photography, styling and creative storytelling. This role also oversees, manages and maintains the operations and finances of the photo studio. The Director will influence and lead creative strategies across channels and functions within the Talbots brand. The Director works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of the brand look and feel, and a seamless omni channel customer experience. Leading and guiding creative while maximizing the photo studio capacity, driving continuous improvements, scaling production to meet high volumes and drives greater efficiencies while ensuring high quality, on-brand photography that connects with our customer target. Must have an exceptional creative eye and love for fashion.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Produces and reviews all seasonal photography to ensure it creates covetability for the brand
  • Serve as a key contributor on the Talbots Digital leadership team, acting as a thought leader to influence strategic business decisions which ensures the voice of the brand and the customer are reinforced through styling, photography, and storytelling
  • Ensures that the digital experience is in line with Brand identity and supports strategic initiatives
  • Builds, leads, and manages a best-in-class creative team
  • Develop and retain high-caliber teams by assessing current and future needs, and developing a holistic organizational model that scales with the needs of the business
  • Develops and manages Talbots digital photography budget
  • Collaborates closely with the Creative, Merchandising, Visual, Project Management, Inventory Management, Marketing, Digital Operations and Production teams to drive business objectives
  • Maintains close relationships with external staff including photographers, assistants, models, stylists, producers, talent agencies, hair and make-up artists, and outside vendors for photo equipment and the data trafficking systems
  • Partners with Merchandising, Visual, Marketing, and Creative teams to translate key merchandising strategies into customer-focused messages
  • Partners and influences Product Management and site merchandising as part of overall site and consumer experience (new arrivals folders)
  • Nutures the partnership between the Studio team and the Catalog team to ensure all brand marketing, digital marketing and advertising have a consistent brand tone for Talbots; which establishes and results in the evolution of a consistent company image.
  • Understand Talbots business from a creative, strategic marketing and merchandising point of view (Marketing Adopt) and best determine how to creative solve for the challenges brought forth in the creative briefs.
  • Interacting with all business areas to ensure optimal studio functionality
  • Drive continuous improvement and processes to positively impact year to year budgets

 

Qualifications/ Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strategic thinker with passion for our business and the customer
  • Experience inclusive of the following: product and on-figure photography, photo studio management, graphic design, hair, make-up, models, etc…
  • Ability to think creatively and commercially at all times
  • Love and passion for fashion and retail
  • Strong understanding of our business and overall business acumen
  • Proven track record of developing and managing relationships with key business partners and key stakeholders
  • Ability to manage and lead through ambiguity and change; strong problem solving skills
  • Self-starter with strong creative point of view, and persuasive communicator
  • Proven experience in working effectively in Creative and Merchandising organizations
  • Leader with experience managing and developing large teams
  • Expertise in leveraging historical information, sales trends, competitive insights, best practices and marketplace intelligence
  • Propensity for breaking down complex workflows into manageable parts and managing to specific deadlines
  • Anticipate and resolve bottlenecks offering unique creative solutions
  • Strong communication & leadership with the ability to work cross-functionally with multiple teams
  • Excellent verbal, written, and analytical skills
  • E-commerce experience required

Internal – Studio Staff, Creative, Marketing, Visual, Finance, Project Management, Web Development, E-commerce, Merchants, Accounts Payable and Security

External – All freelance shoot personnel (photographer, assistants, stylist, producers, talent agencies), outside vendors for photo equipment and the data trafficking system

 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10-15 years of creative management experience in retail or fashion with experience in high volume, high production digital operations
  • Love for fashion and retail
