Position Title: Data Administrator III

External Description:

The Database Engineer is responsible for the organization and controls of multiple facets of the company’s enterprise data resources. Includes the analysis, design, development and implementation of efficient use of the physical and logical data structures and the processes related to backup and restoration of this data, and the maintenance of security definitions related to corporate data.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and create an efficient physical database model from a logical data model and application specifications. Translate the physical database design into the physical database implementation and manage the database once it has been implemented
  • Monitor the database environment to provide consistent response times to the business systems using them. Suggest specific programming techniques and data access to application areas developing these subsystems. Make changes to data structures or the DBMS to optimize performance
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, security issues 
  • Implement, document, and maintain methods and procedures for data and database backup and recovery, both on-site and off-site. Participate in disaster recovery tests
  • Create, document and maintain diagrams of current environments
  • Provide general education and training, along with product support and diagnostic assistance with data access problems to applications development, computer operations, and production assurance utilizing DBMS and related integration tools 
  • Troubleshoot problem programs to obtain most efficient data source connectivity and data access. Suggest specific programming techniques and database access to application areas developing these subsystems. Make changes to data structures or the DBMS to optimize performance 
  • Request product upgrades from vendors. Install, test and implement vendor products. Migrate change into production environments. (i.e. new versions or releases, corrective and preventative maintenance and support for vendor packages). Participate in the Request for Proposal Process (RFP)
  • Track and analyze DISK growth based on application and data usage. Implement the necessary changes to accommodate the growth
  • Create and maintain procedures related to the DBMS subsystems, related software products, and data movement between computing environments
  • Work on multi-platform, multi-DBMS environments. Continues to independently stay abreast of the latest database integration technology
  • Plan, Coordinate and Implement PCI policies and procedures
  • Works independently with no supervision
  • Perform as a project leader. Create documentation and work plans using applicable project management tools. Schedule, attend and conduct project meetings and provide status updates to management
  • Identify new opportunities to:
    • Improve the efficiency of the data subsystems
    • Reduce company costs
    • Improve existing processes therefore reducing effort or increasing productivity, including automation of tasks

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge at a level normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent 
  • 7-10 years experience in data administration and knowledge of software 
  • In depth knowledge of SQL Server, Analysis Services, Integration Services, Reporting Services, Window OS, virtualized platforms utilizing Microsoft Hyper-V and VMWare ESX
  • Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools 
  • Hyperion, data connectivity, and related support products or their technical equivalent)
  • Demonstrate knowledge in physical data modeling data administration and data architectures 
  • Good technical, project management, analytical, and communications skills are required
