Position Title: Art Director-Print

BASIC PURPOSE:

 

The Print Art Director is responsible for executing print creative (mainly catalogs, mailers, and inserts) from concepting and layout design, through the file release and post-production stages. This position works closely with senior creatives and partnering teams to develop and maintain a high visual standard for the overall look of all printed materials, and ensures that design responsibilities are completed on time.

 

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Design layouts that bridge the creative concepts, merchandising and marketing strategies, resulting in a visually impactful and engaging brand shopping experience — fashion editorial-quality layouts with sophisticated type design and composition.

 

  • Develop new layout and storytelling ideas — establish an overall look & feel with appropriate swipe, layout design and copy treatments. Bring fresh ideas and newness to each project, while always staying on-brand and mindful of the Talbots customer.

 

  • Collaborate with Photo & Visual Merchandising teams prior to photo shoot, to ensure a unified creative vision of product presentation in layouts. Prior to photo shoot, create initial layouts based on the shot sheet.

 

  • Place dailies from photo shoot into layouts. Design and place editorial/promotional copy in layouts. Refine and prepare layouts for Executive review process: make revisions as needed, working closely with Senior Creatives on layout re-designs and new photo edits for follow-up reviews.

 

  • Work with Copy & Graphic Production teams to tighten up and finalize layouts for release. Review bluelines to ensure that layouts are clean and design specs/standards are met. Provide clear
    and detailed retouching direction on all catalog photography via PDF mark-ups. Review color proofs in conjunction with Photo & Print Production teams to ensure that all retouching work has met our high-quality standards.

 

  • Execute related design projects in addition to catalog creative, such as marketing/PR pieces and promotional inserts. Provide concepting support on seasonal campaigns and brand initiatives.

 

  • Communicate project status to manager and partnering teams. Proactively navigate the creative process, schedules and deadlines.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • College degree and 5+ years of related experience.
  • Retail/fashion brand experience desired.
  • Expert in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and Bridge.
  • Knowledge of printing techniques and production.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with tight schedules and deadlines.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of ongoing trends in fashion, retail and design industries.
