Position Title: Mgr Tax

External Description:

Primary Purpose:

This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day income tax accounting and reporting function. This includes supporting the monthly close process, analyzing and reconciling tax accounts, preparing tax returns and quarterly estimates, researching and documenting tax positions and assisting as needed on ad hoc projects. The manager is expected to play a key role in understanding the tax implications of new legislation, business transactions and new accounting guidance. This role will interact with various areas within the finance function.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for ASC 740 and other income tax related standards and guidance in connection with income tax reporting for the financial statements on a yearly basis.
  • Maintain detailed analysis of tax accounts and FIN 48 reserves which includes supporting analysis and memorandum.
  • Prepare effective income tax rate analysis using budgets and forecasts.
  • Responsible for the preparation of Federal, State and Canadian income tax returns, quarterly estimates and extension requests.
  • Identify, research, and prepare technical memos on Federal, State and Canadian tax issues; monitor legislative changes and FASB developments impacting the income tax. 
  • Work in close partnership with other areas of Finance to ensure accurate accounting for income taxes reporting and forecasting.
  • Assist with data gathering, workpaper review and written appeals for income and sales tax audits.
  • Maintain tax calendar to ensure that all deadlines are met.
  • Maintain internal controls and documentation to meet Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Liaison with external advisors on various matters including tax fixed asset depreciation maintenance.

Education/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with CPA/ MST required
  • Five or more years public accounting (Big 4 preferred) with additional corporate experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word required. Corptax, Oracle and Hyperion experience preferred.
  • Experience in writing technical position memos as well as maintaining detailed Excel models and analyses
  • Dedication and an exceptional work ethic.

  • Ability to present information and ideas in clear and concise manner
  • Keen attention to detail; good analytical and organization skills
  • Good interpersonal skills; ability to foster cooperative relationships with business partners
