Talbots Distribution Center in Lakeville, MA is seeking a safety-conscious, reliable, Maintenance Mechanic to be responsible for providing general maintenance and repair of building, equipment and grounds.

Scheduled regular hours are Monday - Friday, 2pm - 10:30pm.

Basic Purpose:

This position is responsible for the safe, effective, efficient, and timely maintenance and repair of building, equipment and grounds at the Talbots Lakeville property.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Perform diversified maintenance duties as assigned by Maintenance Leadership, involving mechanical repairs, minor electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and building repair; Ground maintenance, assembly work, and moving of furniture; Repair floors, ceilings, dry walling and pipe work. Accomplish projects individually or with personnel assigned. Provide co-workers with guidance and instruction in the completion of assignments including proper use of tools, required personal protective equipment, safety procedures and proper documentation.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and other services. Complete routine work, preventive maintenance, renovations and repairs. Respond to emergency breakdowns during and after business hours. Analyze conditions and perform, recommend or effect corrective actions to resolve emergencies. Perform motor and gear box changes, and maintenance on air control devices. Check, adjust, replace or overhaul mechanical and electrical system components within scope of maintenance responsibility.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment needed to perform job. Thoroughly analyze job requirements to ensure tools are on hand. Provide Maintenance Leadership with a list of materials needed to complete the job in the time frame required. Properly and safely use such equipment as hand and power tools, ladders, electric saws, dollies, tapes, scales, hydro testers, feeler gauges and the like. Wear required personal protective equipment for tools and equipment used.
  • Maintain a neat, well-organized workshop and storage areas. Ensure that work areas and equipment are kept clean and in good operating condition with all safeguards in place.
  • Perform other related duties as required such as: Demonstrate working knowledge of all equipment and systems including conveyors, sorters, garment-on-hanger handling conveyors, air controlled devices, HVAC components, simplex panels, fire protection components, master clock system, compressors and dryers, emergency lighting, interior and exterior lighting, lighting timers, electric distribution panels, plumbing, hot water heaters, thermostats, ventilation fans, electric heating, grounds equipment,
  • Inventory and replenishment of consumable supplies. Maintain necessary records. Move equipment, furniture, fixtures product and supplies as needed. Perform grounds maintenance during winter months keeping walks clear of snow and ice and sanded. Monitor inventory of consumable stock: lamps, ballasts, paint, electrical parts, lubricants, belts, fasteners, mechanical parts.
  • Maintain a concern for and an awareness of the safety conditions in all work areas. All company safety rules are strictly followed and complied with. All conditions creating a safety hazard are brought to the attention of the department Supervisor and the Facilities Manager and promptly eliminated. A complete understanding of Talbots Lakeville Lock-out/Tag-out procedures, MSDS requirements, Hot Works guidelines and procedures, electrical safety, and safe mobile equipment operation including utility carts, scissor lift, cleaning equipment and forklifts.
  • An active member of the fire brigade. Be completely familiar with Simplex Fire Alarm System and Fire Pond Emergency Pumps and Piping, and emergency back up generator. Detect and report improper operation, and faulty fire protection systems and equipment to Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Respond to emergencies. On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for response to emergencies. Assist in expediting repairs including clean up and any other appropriate measures necessary to respond to the emergency conditions.
  • Assist with other work that may develop from time to time.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 4 years experience of mechanical service and repair preferably working with material handling equipment such as conveyors, sorters, and powered monorail systems
  • Electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and equipment controls experience desired 
  • Must be able to work in a production driven environment 
  • Must be able to communicate in a clear and concise manner
  • Basic reading, writing and math skills required 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications helpful
